Do You Have Buzz Factor?

So you're the hottest new artist in your city and you have a dope music catalog, but do you have buzz factor? No Buzz Factor isn't the amount of time it takes for your incredibly air headed friend to process information and it has nothing to do with being lit at a bar or a party. Buzz Factor refers to your social media following. How many likes you have on your Facebook Fan Page or Twitter and/or Instagram Followers you have helps determine the size of your fan base, one of the factors that an A&R Representative looks at when evaluating you for a contract. Not only is a large fan base a good indicator of the quality of your work but it also shows the kind of dedication that you have to your art. Followers can be bought but another factor that some A&R Representatives look for is fan engagement. Are you interacting with your fans? Are you consistently providing them with new content to keep their interest?
Now let's talk about download numbers, another important factor that A&R Representatives look at. So you've got great music out there, but no one knows about it. It takes more than the people you went to school with to get the kind of download numbers that will generate some real dollars or to make you look marketable to an A&R representative. How many downloads did you get last month or even last week? If you want to increase digital sales it takes consistent effort on your part. You should be marketing your music and/or merchandise several times a week on all of your social media channels. It's a big job but someone's got to do it. Wait a minute. While we're talking about making your music available for download shouldn't we be talking about getting your music registered with performance rights affiliations organizations, licensed or published?
Don't have time for all of that or waiting on a good friend to do it for you? If someone is doing your promotions for free that means they're doing it on a voluntary basis which means when they have time for it. Not seeing the results you want or believe that you could have? Maybe it's time to hire someone on to do it for you.
